Hin Kong

Quiet pool villas, one road from the sunset

עברית

Hin Kong sits just south of Sri Thanu along Koh Phangan's west coast, connected by the same single road that threads the sunset side of the island from Haad Yao in the north down to Thong Sala. The village is small and resolutely unspectacular from the roadside — a pharmacy, a mechanic, a few family restaurants — but the land behind and above the road tells a different story.

Villas here occupy lush hillside plots with morning views across rice paddies and afternoon views that clear over the Andaman horizon. The best properties are genuinely secluded without being remote: a five-minute scooter ride puts you at a café in Sri Thanu or a market in Thong Sala. The combination of privacy and connectivity is one of Hin Kong's defining qualities.

The area has attracted a quieter, more established expatriate crowd than Sri Thanu. There are fewer yoga studios and more local restaurants, fewer retreat schedules and more people who moved here years ago for a month and never quite left. This creates a surprisingly grounded community — one where long-term Thai residents and long-term foreign residents have developed genuine relationships over time.

Property quality is high. Operators like Satori and Boho Villas / Phangan Management maintain curated villa portfolios here, typically 3-4 bedroom houses with private pools, outdoor kitchen areas and gardens maintained by local staff. Unlike some parts of the island where development happened quickly and without much craft, Hin Kong's stock has been built more carefully and updated more consistently.

The west-coast road can be noisy at night during Full Moon season when taxi trucks run continuously. Away from the main road, however, Hin Kong is quiet by any reasonable measure. It is the kind of place where the hardest decision of the day is whether the sunset is better from the villa terrace or the hill above it.
